New test speeds up diagnosis after a tick bite through easy-to-use mail-in kit.

Editor-in-Chief
Time is of the essence when dealing with Lyme Disease. Typically, after someone finds a tick on their body, or the body of their child or pet, they watch for symptoms to develop over the following days and weeks and then head to the doctor for blood work as the first steps toward proper treatment. But new-to-market Cutter Lyme Disease Tick Test can help consumers fast-tracks the process, which can mean speedier intervention of key remedies such as antibiotics that are used to treat the illness. Manufactured and distributed by EPA Enterprises, Inc., the testing kit provides consumers with results in just three days after receipt of their sample, shortening the turnaround time and eliminating inaccurate results associated with typical lab tests, according to the Brodheadsville, PA-based company. The Cutter test determines whether or not the tick is carry Lyme Disease by identifying the DNA of the bacteria responsible for Lyme’s with 99.9%, accuracy. Why? A lab tests the tick, not the person or pet, according to EPA Enterprises. The Cutter Lyme Disease Tick Test kit contains an easy-to-use tick remover, alcohol wipe, specimen bag, three control labels, tick/Lyme test submission form and pre-addressed mailing label. Users follow the steps, place the kit in an envelope, add postage and toss it into the mail. Consumer will have results sent three business days after receipt. While Zika has been grabbing more headlines of late, Lyme disease is the fastest growing, most commonly reported vector borne illness in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control. EPA Enterprises, Inc. might be a lesser known name, but its roots run deep in the pest control and lawn and garden space; Eddie Abraham, is president and CEO. Abraham is the former head of Liquid Fence Company— best known for its flagship Liquid Fence Deer & Rabbit Repellent—which was acquired by the United Industries Home & Garden division of Spectrum Brands in 2014. The lab testing service is provided by the Northeast Wildlife DNA Lab at East Stroudsburg University. Abraham is on the council of trustees of the Pennsylvania school. Kits can be kept inside one’s medicine cabinet at home, and EPA Enterprises has created a travel version too that’s perfect to stow in a backpack, fishing tackle box or golf bag. Each has manufacturer's suggested retail price is $24.99, with no hidden costs or follow-up lab fees, according to the company.
